AL- BALQA' APPLIED UNIVERSITY (BAU) was founded in 1997, a distinctive state university in the field of Bachelor and Associate degree Applied Education, at the capacity of 47,500 student distributed into 32,000 at the Bachelor degree program and 15,500 at the Associate degree program.

The Faculty of Engineering Technology (FET) is an applied engineering institution under the umbrella of BAU. Since 1989, the institution has started offering the bachelor degree in applied engineering in the fields of Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, Electro-Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering. This degree was obtained upon the completion of 140 credit hours with great emphasis on the practical engineering fields. The institution started the engineering technology program in the fall of 1997 shortly after merging with BAU, which approximately constitutes 25% of the curriculum. In addition, two-month field training is required for graduation.

The BAU administration is considering the inclusion of field training as a part of required credits. The associate degree program is restructured to meet new challenges in both local and global markets. This restructuring includes modification of existing curricula, increasing and redistributing the required credit hours in some cases. Over 8000 students are the total enrolled students in 2014/2015 academic year in the Associate degree, Bachelor degree, and Master degree Programs. The associate degree is awarded after the completion of 75 credit hours. The Bachelor degree is awarded after the completion of 160 credit hours, while the Master degree is awarded after completion of 33 credit hours.

The college consists of six main academic divisions: Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Engineering and Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering and Communications, Civil Engineering, and Chemical Engineering. The Department of Civil Engineering provides two degrees in Civil Engineering:  Bachelor in Highway and Bridge Engineering and Associate degree in three specialties (Civil Engineering; Architecture; and Interior Design.) The aim is to provide the market with graduates who master the “know how” in the fields that are not covered by the conventional B.Sc. programs in Jordan and in the Middle East. FET and BAU has more than 15 campuses distributed all over the country that can be utilized for lecturing and logistics. In addition, FET provides expertise diversity of faculty members, who are qualified in the area of  traffic safety, with strong connection with local and international stakeholders.
